PROVIDENCE, RI, December 18, 2024 – Partridge Snow & Hahn (PSH), a full-service business law and litigation firm, announces that Attorney Sean M. Fontes was appointed by Federal Court Chief Judge John J. McConnell Jr. to the Merit Selection Panel to assist in selecting the new United States Magistrate Judge. The panel of 13 lawyers and two non-lawyers will recommend to the active district judges of the Court five candidates it determines as best qualified to serve as a United States Magistrate Judge. The panel will report its recommendations to the court by December 31, 2024.
Sean serves as Counsel in PSH’s Employment & Labor and Litigation & Disputes practice groups, where he focuses on employment law compliance and employer-side litigation. He advises businesses on new and existing employment law compliance, handles all aspects of collective bargaining agreements, and represents employers who have been sued by their employees for discrimination and wage and hour claims. Sean also provides trainings to employers on employee discipline, performance management, promotions and terminations, and union grievance procedures and best practices. Prior to PSH, Sean led the Legal Division at the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training (DLT), and as counsel to former Governor Raimondo’s Working Group on Diversity In Construction and BuildRI MBE Council.
